How to Handle a Fake or Malicious Amazon Review

Deed Bangladesh Team·February 18, 2026·4 min read

A negative review that's honest but unfavorable isn't something Amazon will remove, no matter how unfair it feels — and understanding that distinction early saves a lot of frustration.

What actually qualifies for removal

  • Contains profanity, hate speech, or personal information.
  • Is about a completely different product (wrong ASIN/listing).
  • Includes claims of counterfeit or safety issues that appear to be a competitor tactic rather than a genuine customer experience.
  • Was clearly left by a competitor or someone with no verified purchase, using Amazon's reporting tools.

What doesn't qualify

A genuine customer who received the product and disliked it, even harshly, is not a policy violation — reporting it as one and having it denied doesn't help, and repeatedly disputing legitimate reviews can draw unwanted scrutiny to the account.

The better long-term response

Responding professionally (where the platform allows seller responses) and using the feedback to actually improve the product or listing description does more for long-term conversion than fighting every negative review that appears.

If you suspect coordinated fake reviews

A sudden cluster of similar negative reviews in a short window, especially around a competitive product, is worth reporting to Amazon with the pattern documented — Amazon's review abuse detection takes reported patterns seriously.
